Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has issued a heartfelt apology following his straight red card in Friday’s 3–1 Group D loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup, played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
Substituted on in the 64th minute, Jackson was dismissed just four minutes later for a studs-up challenge on Ayrton Lucas, leaving Chelsea with ten men and significantly hampering their chances.
“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, teammates, and all the fans watching, I let you down. Another red card and honestly, I’m so angry at myself.
“I work hard every day… I still don’t fully understand how it happened… one thing is clear: it wasn’t intentional… No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect so I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger for the badge and also for everyone who believes in me. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.”
This marks Jackson’s second red card in just over a month, following a controversial dismissal against Newcastle.
Enzo Maresca branded it “a bad moment for Nico,” while former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel blasted it as a “stupid mistake.
