The management of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko have formally requested a permanent seat on the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Executive Council as part of their proposals to the governing body.

Following the tragic death of a Kotoko fan after a Ghana Premier League match, the two most successful clubs in the country have called for a major review of the GFA’s regulations to enhance safety at match venues and protect their interests.

In a joint statement outlining their recommendations, Hearts and Kotoko have also demanded guaranteed representation on the Association’s decision-making body, the Executive Council.

The current 12-member Council consists of the GFA President, five Premier League club representatives, three Division One League representatives, one Women’s Premier League representative, and two representatives from the Regional Football Associations.

While Asante Kotoko is currently represented by James Kwasi Appiah, Hearts of Oak failed to secure a seat in the last elections.

For their proposal to be approved, the Council’s membership would need to expand from 12 to 14, or the two clubs would have to be assured two of the five available Premier League seats.

The GFA has yet to respond to the request, but under the current statutes, any such change would require a majority vote from Congress.

This means Hearts and Kotoko must rally support not only from the Executive Council but also from the broader football community to push their proposal through.
