“Go To Court Over Family & Friends If….”

“If you think the President Nana Akufo-Addo, has broken any law in relation to alleged family and friends running affairs of government, nothing stops you from going to court.”

This is the response of a former Director of Communications for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, to the opposition has told National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NDC has since the assumption of office of President Akufo-Addo in 2017, repeatedly sought to stain his administration with allegations of nepotism, accusing him of fielding his close relations in key positions.

But Mr.Yaw Adomako Baafi says President Akufo-Addo has not violated any law in accordance with Ghana’s constitution.

Speaking on ‘Pae Mu Ka’ with Lawyer Ohene Gyan on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7, Yaw Adomako Baafi said, “There is nothing wrong the President appointing competent people he knows to be in government If  the NDC thinks there is something wrong there should go to court for redress.”

According to him, some of the appointees had lucrative private-sector jobs but left them to sacrifice for their country.

At a press conference on Tuesday 5-11- 2019, the Communications Director of the NDC Sammy Gyamfi named some 53 individuals who are directly related or close to people around the President and have been appointed to positions in the administration.

However, responding to the allegations, Mr.Yaw Adomako Baafi said most of the people named in the NDC’s list have “no real family ties” to the President.

According to him, the said appointments in the Akufo-Addo government were made on the basis of competence.

The NPP further described the NDC’s allegations of nepotism “frivolous and unsubstantiated”.
