Former Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has dismissed claims by former President John Mahama that Ghana’s education outcomes have declined under the Akufo-Addo administration.

According to him, Mahama’s assertion is untrue and contradicts available data on educational progress.

Citing statistics to support his argument, Ntim Fordjour highlighted the significant improvements in literacy and academic performance since 2015.

He noted that under Mahama’s tenure, only 2% of Basic 2 pupils in Ghana could read, while just 45.2% of WASSCE students passed Mathematics.

However, by 2023, literacy among Basic 2 pupils had increased to 38%, while 73.11% of WASSCE students passed English.

He emphasised that these figures reflect a transformation in the country’s education sector under President Akufo-Addo, rather than the alleged decline suggested by Mahama.

He credited the progress to various interventions and policies implemented by the government, which have enhanced learning outcomes at different levels of the education system.

Ntim Fordjour urged Ghanaians to rely on factual data when assessing the state of education in the country.

He maintained that the Akufo-Addo administration has made remarkable strides in improving access, quality, and overall performance in the sector, and any claims to the contrary fail to acknowledge these achievements.
