The leadership of the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) says it learned about the death of Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu with deep sadness.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu, whose death occurred on December 26, 2021, was General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches from 1978 to 1985. He also became the President of the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) in 1986.

Archbishop Tutu was an eminent man. He was a gift from God not only to the people of South Africa but also to the entire world.

He dedicated his life to fighting oppression in a non-violent manner and advocated for the dignity of the human person. Perhaps what most people will remember him for is the instrumental role he played to end South Africa’s apartheid system of racial segregation.

The leaders of CCG celebrate Archbishop Desmond Mpilo Tutu for the impact he has made on Christianity, in Africa and the world at large. His legacy will continue to remain in our hearts forever.

The Council prays and hopes that the Archbishop’s passion for human dignity and peace will not be in vain.

“We pray for peace on the African continent as we say farewell to our beloved father and mentor in Christ. Our deepest condolence goes to the family of the Archbishop, the Anglican Church in South Africa and Ghana, and all his friends and sympathizers.”
