His Excellency Daniel Krull, the German Ambassador to Ghana, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Climate Change and Sustainability, Seidu Issifu, to discuss Ghana’s climate agenda and explore opportunities for collaboration.
The visit also provided an opportunity for Ambassador Krull to congratulate the Minister on his historic appointment as the first Minister of Climate Change and Sustainability, describing it as a bold and visionary move by Ghana’s President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
“This appointment demonstrates Ghana’s commitment to tackling climate change with a dedicated and strategic approach,” said Ambassador Krull.
“Germany remains a strong partner in this journey, offering support through financing facilities and initiatives that promote climate resilience and sustainability,” he added.
During their discussions, the two leaders reflected on the longstanding cooperation between Ghana and Germany, particularly in the areas of climate adaptation, mitigation, and sustainable development.
Ambassador Krull highlighted Germany’s various financing mechanisms and initiatives aimed at supporting climate action in Ghana.
He expressed his country’s readiness to collaborate with the Minister’s office to address climate vulnerabilities through joint programmes and capacity-building efforts.
The Minister expressed his gratitude for the Ambassador’s visit and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its collaboration with international partners. He emphasised the importance of capacity building and securing sustainable funding to drive meaningful climate action.
“My office is open and committed to fostering deeper partnerships that will enhance Ghana’s resilience against climate change,” Minister Issifu stated.
“We need to work together to ensure that adaptation and mitigation efforts effectively address the vulnerabilities affecting our people and environment.”
The discussions underscored the shared commitment of both countries to tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both leaders expressing optimism about future collaborations to build a greener and more resilient Ghana.
