Thousands have been displaced whilst eight people nearly lost their lives after 3 to 4 hours of heavy rainfall in some towns near Nkawkaw, the District capital of Kwahu West.
According to information gathered upon our arrival even in places that were not prone to flooding had been flooded which the level of it was an eyesore.
Places such as Asuogya, Obuasi, Achiase, Adoagyiri, Timber market and others recorded mass destruction of properties following an early downpour between 4 am and 9 am on Wednesday, 22nd September 2021.
Some residents have lost their shelter with others suffering destruction of their properties by the heavy downpour.
They mentioned that this is not the first time flooding destroyed their properties. They revealed that they have done all the needful for the Municipal to come to their aid but are yet to hear from them.
Furthermore, they reveal that no Government or NADMO Official had visited the affected areas.
A called on the Municipal Chief executive for Nkawkaw, Yaw Owusu Addo for his take and action to help displaced residents proved futile with his personal excuse that he wasn’t feeling well and was not present in Accra.
The flood, some residents attributed it to the poor sanitation in the various towns sighting how some people go to the extend of throwing refuse into gutters thereby choking the sewage passages.
Also, he made mention of how the municipal leaders have woefully failed to dredge those choked drains in the area.
