DVLA launches rollout of new number plates in Oti region

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has begun distributing new RFID-enabled license plates in the Oti Region as part of its nationwide efforts to modernise vehicle registration.

The new plates feature advanced security measures, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, regional codes, and unique identifiers, aimed at improving vehicle tracking, reducing smuggling, and enhancing road safety.

Speaking at the rollout, Deputy Director of Vehicle Licensing and Registration Kwasi Bona Otuo Serebour encouraged vehicle owners in the Oti Region to participate in the enrollment process, emphasising the benefits of security, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

He also advised drivers not to rush to register new vehicles, noting that the nationwide registration process will officially commence in January 2026. Vehicle owners who have already registered are encouraged to visit any DVLA centre across the country for the installation of the new plates.

In an interview with Adom News, Regional Member of the Cargo Union, Fuseini Mohammed, along with other drivers, endorsed the new electronic plates, saying they will help prevent robberies and illegal smuggling.
