Driving sustainability: Zenith Bank joins BoG for Cedi@60 tree planting exercise

Zenith Bank Ghana has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to sustainability and national development by actively participating in the Cedi@60 tree planting exercise, an initiative spearheaded by the Bank of Ghana in collaboration with financial institutions across the country.

The exercise formed part of activities commemorating 60 years of the Ghana Cedi, a symbol of economic sovereignty and resilience.

A Green Tribute to the Cedi

As part of the commemorative activities, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank Ghana, Henry Onwuzurigbo planted the first tree at the Bank’s Head Office and another was planted at the Bank’s Labone Branch.

The Bank extended its efforts beyond its premises by planting 58 additional trees at the Christian Methodist School in Kasoa, reinforcing its dedication to environmental stewardship and community engagement.

The Bank’s participation in the Cedi@60 tree planting exercise aligns with its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy, which prioritizes responsible banking practices and sustainable development. The Bank recognizes that environmental care is integral to economic stability, and initiatives like this underscore its role as a socially responsible corporate institution.

Mr. Onwuzurigbo highlighted that the decision to join the Bank of Ghana in its tree planting exercise was more than an act of planting trees; it signified a strong commitment to sustainability and the long-term progress of Ghana’s economy.

He explained that each tree planted represents a pledge to protect the environment while supporting the resilience of the Cedi and fostering national prosperity.

The MD/CEO reiterated that the Bank’s involvement in the Cedi@60 tree planting initiative reflects its firm conviction that sustainable economic growth must be paired with environmental responsibility.

He emphasised that as Ghana celebrates 60 years of the cedi, the strength of the nation’s currency and economy is inseparable from the resilience of its environment and Zenith Bank Ghana is proud to contribute to building a greener Ghana while safeguarding the long-term stability of the Cedi.

More than a milestone

The Cedi@60 celebration is more than a milestone; it is a call to action for all stakeholders to safeguard Ghana’s economic future. For Zenith Bank, supporting this initiative is symbolic of its dedication to strengthening the cedi and promoting economic resilience.

A stable currency thrives in a stable environment and by investing in green projects, the Bank is contributing to the foundations of long-term economic growth.

Zenith Bank Ghana continues to integrate sustainability into its operations and community initiatives. From energy-efficient practices in all locations of the Bank to supporting green projects nationwide, the Bank is committed to playing a leading role in Ghana’s transition to a more sustainable economy.
