The legal representatives of Collins Amoah, Porta Legis Consultancy, have issued a strong rebuttal to what they describe as a misleading publication regarding his alleged involvement in a tax fraud case.
Contrary to claims made, the case was not withdrawn by the complainant but was, in fact, dismissed by Circuit Court 3 in Accra due to a lack of merit.
According to a statement from Porta Legis Consultancy, their client was never involved in the alleged GH₵800,000 transaction that led to the complaint.
The statement further emphasised that he was neither notified nor summoned before the case commenced, nor was he given any opportunity to respond before a bench warrant was reportedly issued against him.
Upon learning of the situation through media reports, Collins Amoah promptly returned to Ghana to clear his name. His legal representatives maintain that, after reviewing the case, the court found no evidence to substantiate the allegations, leading to its dismissal.
They have categorically denied reports suggesting that the case was settled, stressing that the offence, which pertains to defrauding by false pretence, is a felony and therefore cannot be resolved through a settlement.
Amoah’s legal team has called on the media to ensure accuracy in their reporting and has warned of legal action should false narratives persist. They stated that every effort would be made to safeguard their client’s reputation and integrity.
This matter underscores broader concerns about responsible journalism in Ghana, particularly in cases involving public figures, where misrepresentation often goes unchallenged.
The assertion that the case was withdrawn by the complainant has been described as misleading, unprofessional, and unethical.
Such a stance contravenes key principles of journalism, including accuracy, impartiality, fairness, integrity, independence, objectivity, and respect.
It also raises concerns about sensationalism, libel, and defamation, which can significantly impact individuals’ reputations.
Collins Amoah is a businessman and a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He participated in the Ablekuma Central Parliamentary Primaries in 2024, narrowly missing the opportunity to become the parliamentary candidate by just a few votes.
