Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia continues to attract emphatic endorsements in the Eastern Region as he intensifies his campaign tour ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.
For nearly a week, Dr Bawumia has been meeting delegates and party faithful across the region. On Sunday, the momentum grew even stronger as he toured four constituencies—Kade, Akwatia, Akroso Asene Manso, and Lower West Akim—where constituency executives, MPs and former parliamentary candidates publicly declared their support.
Party leaders in the constituencies described the growing endorsement as “the will of the people,” insisting that the former Vice President remains the strongest candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Akwatia endorses with higher targets
At Akwatia, Dr Bawumia received a rousing welcome. The constituency chairman assured him of overwhelming support, predicting an even stronger showing in the upcoming primaries.
“Two years ago, we gave you nearly 68%. No one coerced us to vote for you. And now, when we look at your commitment, your message and your hard work, I believe the 68% you had in 2023 will even increase to 86% by January 31,” he said.
The NPP parliamentary candidate for the recent Akwatia by-election also pledged the constituency’s full backing, noting that Dr Bawumia offered them “immense support” during the by-election.
Former Akwatia MP Ama Sey added her voice, urging delegates not to shift support away from Dr Bawumia.
“Ghanaians don’t normally like change… So I am appealing to all of you not to be deceived and change. Let us continue to support Dr Bawumia,” she said. She added that nationwide feedback shows strong grassroots demand for Bawumia as flagbearer.
Kade declares full support
In Kade, delegates greeted the former Vice President with chants of solidarity. The constituency chairman said the support for Bawumia was longstanding and unwavering.
“Kade Constituency is always with Bawumia… The constituency is already behind Bawumia,” he stressed, urging polling station executives, coordinators and elders to vote massively on January 31.
Asene Manso Akroso rallies behind Bawumia
A similar scene played out in Asene Manso Akroso, where Constituency Chairman Kojo Effah led supporters in chanting “Bawumia no change!”
“What we want to tell you is that by the grace of the Almighty God, you will be victorious,” he said. “We will continue to work very hard for you… so that by the grace of God, you will win and become the President of Ghana.”
As Dr Bawumia edges closer to the NPP’s January 31 primaries, endorsements such as these suggest growing grassroots confidence in his bid to lead the party into the 2028 elections.
