The Member of Parliament (MP) for Binduri, Issifu Mahmoud, has commended the factions involved in the Bawku conflict for submitting to mediation talks led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, calling it an act of willingness to pursue peace.
Mr Mahmoud made the comment on JoyNews’ AM Show, where he explained that the goodwill exhibited by the parties to come to the table for mediation demonstrates their commitment to resolving the conflict through dialogue rather than force.
His comment comes after factions gathered at the Manhyia Palace for mediation talks yesterday.
“Submitting to the Otumfuo-led mediation is an act of willingness for peace,” Mr Mahmoud remarked.
“Mediation is voluntary, and by submitting to Otumfuo’s authority, the parties have shown a clear readiness to engage in constructive dialogue.”
He further clarified that mediation is not about one side winning and the other losing, but a process that requires compromise from all parties involved.
It’s about finding common ground, not about one side triumphing over the other.
“You don’t approach a mediation table expecting a complete win or loss. Both sides must be prepared to make concessions in order to reach a balanced solution,” he explained.
Mr Mahmoud also emphasised that the decision to engage in mediation highlights the maturity of the parties and their genuine desire for lasting peace.
By coming to the table with a mindset of compromise, they are signalling their readiness to make sacrifices for the greater good.
“From this perspective, it’s clear the people are ready to compromise,” he added. “True peace comes when all sides are willing to make concessions.”
