Parliament

The Minority in Parliament says it is waiting for the government’s official position on the findings of the committee that investigated the August 6 helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of eight senior officials, including government ministers and military officers.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Tuesday, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, said the Minority has taken note of the highlights presented by the investigative team but will reserve its full response until the complete report is reviewed.

“We, the Minority, are expecting to have the full report and review it to give an informed and comprehensive opinion. At the moment, our expectation is that the government will have to take a position on the committee’s findings and then state a way forward,” he said.

The comments follow the presentation of the official investigation report to the President earlier on Tuesday by Captain (Rtd) Paul Fordjour, who led the probe into the fatal crash.

When asked what position the Minority expects from government, the Assin Soyh MP emphasised that responsibility now lies with the executive to respond to the committee’s recommendations.

“As a government, you have mandated a committee to undertake an investigation. When the committee completes its work and presents its report, some decisions have to be taken. We are waiting to see what position the government takes on the findings,” he said.

“We want to know the view and the position of the government. Once they make their position clear, we will also engage and offer our view,” he added.

Ntim Fordjour noted that the Minority’s approach to the tragedy has been measured and constructive, focused on improving aviation safety rather than assigning blame.
