Edem Agbana

Ketu North MP Edem Agbana has hailed Ghana’s newly launched 24-hour economy initiative as transformative, crediting it with unlocking untapped economic potential.

Speaking to Metro TV on Thursday, July 3—just one day after the official launch—he described the policy as a bold step toward driving productivity and creating jobs.

“An around-the-clock economy changes the entire rhythm of our lives,” Mr Agbana said, adding that the approach would allow businesses to operate beyond traditional hours, helping address unemployment.

“It’s a game-changer,” he stressed. He claimed that sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, transport, and retail stand to benefit significantly.

Speaking further, the MP emphasised the human capital focus of the policy.

“Our youth must gain new skills—they’ll need to innovate and to work in the evenings and at night. This is where the One Million Coders and TVET programmes come into play.”

He argued that equipping young Ghanaians with digital and vocational expertise is essential for capitalising on continuous economic activity.

While noting the global interest shifting toward Africa’s emerging markets, Mr Agbana cautioned that Ghana must act decisively to seize its moment.

He urged the government and private sector to ensure reliable electricity, secure infrastructure, and supportive regulations so that the 24-hour economy can truly deliver on its promise.
