Swiss international Fabian Schar takes his place alongside the Spain international at the back having not only scored twice in November but ranked among the top ten players for both aerial duels won (10) and tackles (13).
Elsewhere in the rearguard, Valencia keeper Neto is the first of three Los Che representatives in the line-up having conceded just once across appearances against Leganes, Espanyol and Barcelona, while Jose Gaya takes the left-back berth. The 21-year-old registered the assist as Marcelino’s men drew against the league leaders, while only two players made more interceptions (9) last month.
Dani Parejo is the third and final Valencia man in the XI having made at least four more tackles than any other La Liga player (19) and scored in the victory over Leganes.
