The Premier League Board (PLB) has congratulated the Black Stars “B” for winning the Ghana 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations.
A letter signed and released by Ashford Tettey-Oku reads.
The PLB is particularly glad that its decision to put on hold the Premier League to enable the Black Stars B prepare adequately for the WAFU Cup of Nations has yielded positive results with the Black Stars B emerging champions.
With the team made up of only players from the domestic league, its remarkable victory should be a source of great joy and pride for all stakeholders of the Premier League.
The PLB is also proud of the achievements of Isaac Twum and Stephen Sarfo, who emerged as the best player of the tournament and top scorer of the tournament respectively.
The achievement of the two players in winning two of the three individual awards of the tournament clearly indicates the quality of players in the Ghana Premier League.
Indeed, the WAFU tournament has not only strengthened friendship among nations in the West Africa sub-region, it has also positively enhanced the image of our domestic competition through the shining display of our Stars.
We commend all our clubs for their efforts in developing footballers, who have conquered the sub-region to bring honour to our motherland.
As the Premier League returns next week with the final stretch of games, the PLB encourages all stakeholders to bring to bear some of the positive lessons obtained from the just-ended WAFU Nations Cup to sustain the rekindled interest in the league.
Once again, the PLB congratulate our Stars for making the nation, the Ghana Premier League and themselves proud.
