The Ghana Chamber of Mines has launched a local content online portal for its members as part of measures to improve local sourcing of mining inputs.
The portal is to connect manufacturers with mining firms to ensure seamless supply of inputs.
Currently, mining firms source about 64 per cent of all inputs locally. This makes up about two billion dollars of the total cost of all inputs annually.
President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Kwame Addo-Kufuor speaking to Class Business said, the introduction of the portal should also boost growth through job creation.
“What this portal does is to give visibility into the opportunities in the industry. What can a local Ghanaian provide into the value chain which we are importing now? This portal is going to show the list of items which can be manufactured and provided locally, provided the right standards of course are made,” he stated.
