President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has launched a new national identification card called the Ghana Card with a call on the National Identification Authority (NIA) to protect data gathered at all times.
The new ID card will phase out the one previously issued in the John Agyekum Kufour era.
“My presence at today’s event, together with the Vice President of the Republic, highlights the seriousness which my government attaches to the national identification system. The NPP government under my leadership has not only prioritised the NIA, but also demonstrated commitment to making the NIA work again. That is why I press to provide the NIA the requisite support to perform its functions effectively,” Nana Akufo-Addo said at the launch on Friday, 15 September.
