Ghana needs nothing but a proper disaster preparedness plan for all flood prone areas identified in the country.
There are several critical issues relating to flooding in Ghana such as causes, impacts and remedies.
Flooding which arguably has been more damaging for Ghana has worsened recently due to a number of possible factors including rapid population growth, urbanization, poor urban planning and climate change especially in increased frequency and intensity of rainfall.
Attempts by Nadmo to tackle the hazard in Ghana appear to be limited by lack of disaster mitigation logistics, proper planning and other remote causes.
Over the period, flooding in Ghana has affected many lives and properties with several deaths and property damages.
Accra has experienced most of the floods which in my view is as a result of lack of proper disaster preparedness plan.
Governments for several years have shown a little commitment to fighting flooding in the country.
Going forward as a country we need more robust and scientific approaches to flood risk reduction such as flood modeling and vulnerability assessment.
