Mysterious sickness in (KUMACA) kills only male students – Muntaka

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has revealed that the mysterious sickness in Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) has killed only male students so far.

He said this on the floor of the House in Parliament on Tuesday December 5, 2017.

According to the Member of Parliament of Asawase where the school is located, all recorded death cases have only been male students.

He went on to revealed that the first reported case was in March early this year however, none or little has been done by the Ministry of Health to address the worrying situation.

Three of the deaths are reported to have happened Tuesday morning. So far, 13 students at the school are reported to have died of meningitis since the beginning of the year.

 “The Ministry of Health has not been able to tell us what truly is the cause of the mysterious deaths in the school. It is only boys that a dying. The school is a mixed school but all the recorded deaths so far are male students” he explained.

According to him, the locals in the community have associated the situation to a curse or an occult practice however he dispelled this notion saying that “mysterious happenings like this always have a scientific cause and ways to address it.

He went on to appeal to the Speaker of Parliament to invite the Minister of Health to the Parliament house to answer some questions concerning the mysterious deaths and the way forward.

Meanwhile over 20 students are reported to be on admission at various hospitals in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
