The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that President Mahama will contest the 2020 presidential election, whether he likes it or not.
The Former deputy Ashanti regional Minister, Hon Joseph Yamin says the party would force the president to contest.
“He does not have a choice because Ghanaians are calling on him ‘John Mahama to contest again. So it is not even about the party, Ghanaians have realized that, they made a mistake in the 2016 elections”.
“That is why I am saying that, he does not have a choice, whether he likes it or not he will contest again” Yamin said with finality.
Mahama was brutally beaten by the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the just-ended presidential election, losing by over one million votes.
Analysts have described Mahama’s decisive defeat as a spectacular repudiation of his policies in the last four years, but the NDC appears to still see the outgoing president as their best bet to recapture power in 2016.
Though other elements in the party areof the view that the NDC should look to someone else to lead the party and that Mahama, given the tsunami of corruption allegations that dogged his administration and his decisive defeat in the last election, will not deliver victory, Hon Joseph Yamin told Nana Yaa Boamponsem Ameyaw on Homebase TV’s Morning show ‘Eboboba’ that Former president John Mahama is the best candidate for the party in 2020.
The former president recently told members of his party not to be discouraged by the defeat, but to work hard to help the NDC recapture power in 2020.
