Three first-year students of Kumasi Academy Senior High School (KUMACA) have been confirmed dead on Tuesday morning bringing the death toll recorded in the school to six within a week.
The recent deaths include two females and a male who died at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) hospital in the Ashanti Region.
25 more students are on admission at the KNUST hospital with authorities unable to determine the cause of deaths.
Blood samples from the deceased have been reportedly sent to the Noguchi Memorial Research Institute in Accra to ascertain the cause of the deaths.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education will be briefing Parliament on the recent spate of deaths.
On Thursday last week, two of the students – both males in the first-year were rushed to the hospital after they complained of high temperature.
During that same week a third student died Friday evening after he had reportedly left the school compound for the house to seek medical treatment.
Meanwhile the Ghana Health Service said it’s awaiting the autopsy reports to establish the cause of death.
