First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo has said good healthcare delivery for every Ghanaian should not be jeopardized thus she is not ‘daughtered’ by the possibility of failing Ghanaians especially children.
At the Commissioning of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mrs Akufo-Addo stated that this gesture was necessitated when the Hospital appealed to her foundation in 2017 to assist them with the PICU and upon intensive discussions with staff at her foundation, the PICU was built.
According to her, about 96 years since its inception, the unit has seen no PICU and that led to the gesture.
The First Lady appealed to all and sundry to contribute to making healthcare delivery system in the country a success.
The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit consists of 21-bed and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, 20-bed. The old Children’s emergency ward has not seen any major refurbishment since 1960 when it was built.
The Unit is the busiest children’s unit in the country and runs 24hr emergency service for critically ill children.
She expressed optimism that, the new PICU will help alleviate rapid death occurrences among children in the country.
