The Member of Parliament (MP) for Adentan Constituency, Lawyer Yaw Buaben Asamoah affectionately called Y.B says it is only the guilty ones who are afraid of the institutionalization of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
He said this in an interview with Vincent Ekow Assafuah on Homebase tv on the show ‘Delivering on our promises’ which airs every Tuesday from 8-10pm.
According to Yaw Buaben Asamoah, the public officials who are guilty of corruption are the ones worried over the institutionalization of the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
“The previous administration says we are setting this office up for Witch Hunting purposes but that’s false because we intend to use the Special Prosecutor to reduce the level of corruption in the country. It is only a witch who is afraid when he sees the pastor approaching. If you are not possessed you will even be interested and curious” he said
He explained that, the Mahama-administration should embrace this law because it gives them a chance to clear their names and restore their reputation.
“People have pointed fingers at the NDC for corrupt deals during their tenure in power but this is a way to way to clear your names from all those allegations” he added.
He also went on to reveal that, the only way to win the fight against corruption in this country is through good leadership and sanctions.
He continued that, if the leader in charge detests corruption then his followers will have no other option than to emulate the actions and values of the leader.
“The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hates corruption therefore his followers…that is us, who are helping him will have no other option than to hate corruption too” he said.
Parliament took a giant step towards the fight against corruption with the passage of the Office of Special Prosecutor Bill this year.
That was after the amendment of about 110 clauses to the Bill by the legislators.
The object of the Bill is to establish the Office of the Special Prosecutor as a specialised agency to investigate specific cases of corruption involving public officers, politically exposed persons, and persons in the private sector involved in the commission of corruption and to prosecute the offences on the authority of the Attorney-General.
The establishment of the Office of a Special Prosecutor is one of the key campaign promises of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
