Gov’t Diverting Attention With MASLOC’s Dubious Claims – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Former deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, says the allegations of fraud against former MASLOC CEO was designed by a drowning government to divert attention.

He said the government was drowning in a litany of scandals and needed a reprieve.

“To be candid, this leakage of this audit report has all the trappings of diversionary propaganda by a government that was reeling under considerable public heat in light of the fact that they have [moved] from crisis to crisis, scandal to scandal,” he said.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu cited the visa racketeering scandal at the Commonwealth Games in Australia as one of the scandals from which the government needed a reprieve.

“So one can understand why they will hastily put out very dubious information in the public domain in order to divert attention,” he said on Joy FM/MultiTV’s news analysis show, Newsfile.

A forensic audit of the operations of MASLOC under the John Mahama administration has revealed jaw-dropping suspected fraud and financial impropriety.

The report which was intercepted by Joy News, cited the former CEO at MASLOC Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, her predecessor Bertha Sogah of widespread acts of corruption, inflation of prices for projects with several millions of cedis misappropriated.

Other officials, including the head of operations and Finance at MASLOC were not left out of the suspected misappropriation.

A report of the audit indicates that Mrs Tamakloe withdrew ¢500,000 of MASLOC cash invested with Obaatampa Microfinance but failed to pay the amount back into the accounts of MASLOC.

Her lawyers have dismissed the contents of the report as defamatory and have threatened to sue any media house that maligns her.

Speaking on the audit findings on Newsfile, Mr Kwakye said Mrs Attionu has “has been to EOCO (Economic and Organised Crimes Office) over a dozen times and has fully cooperated with the investigations that EOCO is conducting.”

He said if the government believes that it has sufficient information to prosecute to former MASLOC CEO, it is at liberty to do so.

“Mrs Tamakloe has indicated her willingness to comply with the process,” he stressed.
