Mr K. K. Sarpong, CEO of GNPC has pledged to support Ghana Sports through the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for sportsmen and women to benefit from the rich natural resources of the country.
Speaking at an exclusive meeting with the President of the GOC Ben Nunoo Mensah, the former Asante Kotoko chairman who is a keen sports enthusiast said football alone cannot enjoy all the resources while the players are not winning any laurels to justify the huge investments.
The former top hockey player who featured for the Western Regional team when he was in secondary school said funds must be made available for schools sports and all sporting disciplines must enjoy.
He also noted that sports facilities must be dotted around the country and not only in the regional capitals.
According to Dr Sarpong when facilities are placed in the villages, they would not rush to the big towns for greener pastures and choke the cities, but their contributions can earn the development of the deprived area.
Ben Nunoo Mensah thanked the GNPC boss and promised to have cordial relations with the petroleum company as a major partner for sports development in Ghana.
