The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the country’s agency responsible for the attraction and maintenance of investment in the country, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (MoFAR) on behalf of the Government of Ghana is leading a humanitarian effort to support the West African country of Sierra Leone which has recently been hit by a natural disaster.
More than 400 people have died, and 600 are still missing after a mudslide swept away homes on the edge of the capital, Freetown, in one of Africa’s worst flood disasters in living memory. Homes in the hilltop community of Regent in Freetown were covered after part of Sugar Loaf mountain collapsed following heavy rain early on Monday, August 14. Many victims were asleep in bed when the disaster struck.
The GIPC and MoFAR are, therefore, appealing for support in cash, food, medicines and any other items from the public, to bring relief to the victims of the Sierra Leone.
